Warning Signs and Prevention to Heart Attack (Part 1)

heart attackWhat is a heart attack?

A heart attack (also called myocardial infarction) is when part of the heart muscle is damaged or dies because he is not receiving oxygen. The arteries (blood vessels) carry oxygen to the heart.

Most heart attacks are caused by a blockage in these arteries. Usually the blockage is caused by atherosclerosis, which is the accumulation of fatty deposits (called plaque) inside the artery. This buildup is like the gunk that builds up inside a drainpipe and slows the flow of water.

Heart attacks can also be caused by a blood clot that gets stuck in a narrow part of an artery to the heart. Are more likely to form clots at sites where atherosclerosis has made an artery more narrow.

How do I know if I’m having a heart attack?

The pain of a heart attack can feel like heartburn. It is also likely that you are having a heart attack if:

* Feel a pressure or crushing pain in your chest, sometimes accompanied by sweating, nausea or vomiting.
* Feel pain that extends from your chest into the jaw, left arm or left shoulder.
* Has a feeling of tightness in the chest
* Has a shortness of breath for more than a couple of seconds.

Do not ignore pain or discomfort. If you think you are having heart problems or a heart attack get help immediately. The earlier you get treatment the more likely that doctors can prevent further damage to the heart muscle.

What should I do if I think I’m having a heart attack?

Call an ambulance right away to get to hospital. While waiting for the ambulance to come, chew one tablet of aspirin. Do not take aspirin if you are allergic to aspirin.

If you can, go to a hospital with advanced care facilities for people with heart attacks. In these medical centers the most advanced technology for heart attack is available 24 hours a day. This technology includes rapid thrombolysis than breaking up clots using drugs known as clot busters “(” clot busters “in English), cardiac catheterization and angioplasty.

In the hospital can be given “clot busters” that reopen the arteries quickly to the heart. Nurses and technicians will place an intravenous (IV) on the arm to give medications. They will also do an electrocardiogram (ECG or EKG), give you oxygen to breathe, and watch your heart rate and rhythm on a monitor.

  • The city is a vibrant collage of cultures and people. There is a firm belief that ‘once a Cape Townian always a Cape Townian’. There’s something special about the blend of diversity that is local Cape Town culture. Even though the demand for Cape Town properties is high, the city has remained small. The flat-topped Table Mountain is the heart of the city. It is to the mountain that local inhabitants glance to get their bearings. Table Mountain is surrounded by the city and is within the view of many Cape Town properties.
