The broccoli, healthy cancer therapy
This green flower belongs to the group of crucifers, the famous cauliflower and cabbage, until relatively recently was a vegetable almost unknown, but the properties that are attributed to their consumption have increased dramatically. The latter can make us think that everything has been set up, a great job of marketing. However, recent research, they have found a compound in broccoli, which would respond to the benefits that have been launched to fame.
Broccoli is rich in minerals and vitamins, in addition to providing few calories, or to accompany any dish. But what interests us is not their nutrition and satisfying, what interests us, are its beneficial effects on health.
Science has found one of the most promising natural compounds for the fight against cancer, is the indole-3-carbinol. This substance has slowed and even led to regression of certain cancers in the development phase I and II, these are mostly hormone-dependent cancers (breast, endometrium), this is due to the structure of this compound, so its use would be very selective and therefore with great hope of success.
Broccoli is also rich in two carotenoids that protect the sight of sun damage are lutein and zeaxanthin, these are concentrated in the retina, and act as a shield against the sun.
These properties have led to a search, how to increase the concentrations of these compounds in the plant. In Italy, the early results are giving across the broccoli with a wild Cruciferae Sicily, with a large concentration of these substances.
Thanks for shedding some light on this. I’ve been trying to look for a good source for a while.
