How to Put Eye Drops
The eye drops are a sterile solution or a drug suspended in a suitable liquid. The drops are used to produce a local effect directly in the eye.
- If the drops are a drug suspension, the label indicates that you must shake the bottle before using the drops.
- Wash your hands.
- Sit in front of a mirror so you can see what you are doing.
- Wipe your eyes to remove any dirt.
- Uncover the bottle of drops.
- Tilt the head back.- Carefully pull down the lower eyelid and look up.
- Hold the bottle over the eye and gently, put a dab on the inside of the lower eyelid without the bottle or dropper touch your eye or eyelashes.
- Blink your eyes so that the liquid spreads over the surface of the eye.
- Wipe excess with a clean tissue.
- Repeat this procedure on the other eye if your doctor has indicated so.
- Recap the bottle.
- Be careful that your fingers do not touch the exhaust duct of the drops. In the event that the duct is separated from the bottle, be sure not to place it on any surface.
- If I had to wear more than a drop or are using more than one type of drop, wait five minutes before starting the next. This ensures that the second drop will not remove the first.
